To become a notary public, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be a legal California resident
- Satisfactorily complete a written examination prescribed by the Secretary of State
- Obtain a notary public bond

Filing Oath of Notary Public: $13.00 Recording Notary Bond (first page): $14.00 (each additional page): $3.00 Notary Signature Authentication: $10.00 (Fee will increase to $36.00 on April 1, 2018) (Includes $21.00 statutory recording and filing fee).
